Sodium hydroxide Sampling & Analysis
Sodium Hydroxide (as alkaline dust) comes in the form of a white crystalline odorless solid that absorbs moisture from the air. It is used in chemical manufacturing, petroleum refining, cleaning compounds, and drain cleaners. Sodium Hydroxide is a severe irritant of the eyes, mucous membranes, and skin. Exposure in its dust form irritates the upper respiratory tract and may cause ulceration of the nasal passages. Eye injuries include disintegration and sloughing of conjunctival and corneal epithelium, corneal opacification, marked edema, and ulceration. It can also burn the skin.
