Methyl mercaptan Sampling & Analysis
Methyl Mercaptan comes in the form of a colorless gas that has an odor of rotting cabbage. It is found in decaying organic matter, and is manufactured for use in the plastics industry, in pesticides, and as a jet fuel additive.
The substance enters the body through inhalation, ingestion, or skin/eye contact. It can cause irritation of the skin, eyes, and throat; it can also cause coughing, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and unconsciousness. In its liquid form, it can cause frostbite.
