Manganese
Sampling & Analysis

Manganese comes in the form a gray-white brittle metal.  It is used in the manufacture of dry-cell batteries, and, as an alloy, in the manufacture of steel and aluminum products, as a pigment in glass and ceramics, and food packaging.  It is also found as a trace element throughout nature.

The substance enters the body through inhalation, ingestion, or skin/eye contact.  It causes irritation of the eyes, the skin, and the respiratory system. Prolonged exposure can lead to pneumonia, bronchitis, and neurological damage.
