Ethyl mercaptan Sampling & Analysis
Ethyl Mercaptan comes in the form of a colorless liquid with a skunk-like odor. It is added to propane and butane in order to alert people of the threat of escaping gas that can cause fire, explosion, or asphyxiation.
The substance enters the body through inhalation, ingestion, skin absorption, or skin/eye contact. It can cause irritation of the skin, eyes, and mucous membrane; it can also cause headache and nausea. It is considered toxic.
