Dichloroethylene
Sampling & Analysis

Vinylidene Chloride comes in the form of a volatile, colorless liquid with a sharp odor.  It was used in the original transparent cling-wrap, Saran, but has been eliminated because the chemicals broke down in microwaves.

The substance enters the body through inhalation, ingestion, or skin/eye contact.  It can cause irritation of the skin, eyes, and throat; it can also cause headache, abdominal pain, dizziness, drowsiness, and unconsciousness.
