Arsenic
Sampling & Analysis

Arsenic comes in the form of odorless, brittle, gray, metallic-looking crystals.  Trace elements, however, are found throughout nature.   It used to be used in consumer products, usually medicines, but hasn’t been used this way in over 50 years because it is toxic in high doxes.

The substance enters the body through inhalation of its aerosol or by ingestion. Arsenic irritates the eyes, the skin, and the respiratory tract.   It can also damage the gastrointestinal tract, cardiovascular system, central nervous system, and kidneys, resulting in severe gastroenteritis, loss of fluid, and electrolytes, cardiac disorders, shock, convulsions, kidney impairment and even death.  Its effects may be delayed.
