Aniline is an organic compound and an oily liquid. Although colorless, aged samples of Aniline have a red-brown tint. The substance is used to manufacture other chemicals, especially dyes, photographic chemicals and agricultural chemicals. Aniline has an unpleasant odor similar to that of rotten fish.
Exposure to the substance may occur from breathing contaminated outdoor air, smoking tobacco or in the workplace. Acute and chronic exposure typically cause effects on human lungs, including upper respiratory track irritation and congestion.
Long-term exposure may cause effects on the blood.
The US EPA has classified Aniline as a probable human carcinogen.
