Acetaldehyde
Sampling & Analysis

Acetaldehyde is a colorless, flammable liquid that is widespread and naturally occurring. This substance has a suffocating smell and can be found in ripe fruits, vegetables, cigarette smoke, gasoline and diesel exhaust. The substance is often used in the manufacture of acetic acid, perfumes, dyes and drugs.

Exposure to the substance’s odors can result in irritation of the eyes, skin and respiratory track as well as irritation of mucous membranes. Acetaldehyde is considered a probable human carcinogen. All contact should be avoided.
