Chloroform
Sampling & Analysis

Chloroform comes in the form of a colorless liquid with a pleasant odor.  It was formerly used as an inhaled anesthetic during surgery, but today it is used as an industrial solvent and in the production of refrigerants.

The substance enters the body through inhalation, ingestion, skin absorption, or skin/eye contact.  It can cause irritation of the eyes and skin; it can also cause nausea, headache, weakness, dizziness, mental dullness, anesthesia, and an enlarged liver.
