Butyl alcohol
Sampling & Analysis

Butyl Alcohol comes in the form of a colorless liquid with a strong, characteristic ‘alcoholic’ odor. It is used as a solvent in a variety of chemical and textile processes and as a chemical intermediate.  It is also used as a paint thinner and a solvent, as well as a component of hydraulic brake fluids.

The substance enters the body through inhalation, ingestion, skin absorption, or skin/eye contact.  It causes irritated eyes, nose, and throat; it can also cause headache, dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision, lacrimation, photophobia, auditory nerve damage/hearing loss, corneal inflammation, dermatitis, and central nervous system depression.
