Beryllium oxide
Sampling & Analysis

Beryllium Oxide comes in the form white crystals or powder. It is considered a refractory material, meaning it is used as a component in products or processes that are exposed to temperatures above 1000° F. The substance enters the body through ingestion or inhalation. It is irritating to the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract.

Inhalation of the dust may cause chemical pneumonitis. Repeated or prolonged contact may cause skin sensitization. Lungs may be affected by repeated or prolonged exposure, resulting in cough, weight loss, and/or weakness. The effects may be delayed, and medical observation is indicated.
