Acetonitrile
Sampling & Analysis

Acetonitrile comes in the form of a colorless, aromatic liquid.  It is used as a solvent in the oil and gas refinery industry, in the pharmaceutical industry, and the manufacture of photographic film.

The substance enters the body through inhalation, ingestion, skin absorption, or skin/eye contact.  It causes irritation of the nose, throat, and eyes; it can also cause asphyxia, nausea, vomiting, chest pain, weakness, stupor, and even convulsions.
